Humorous rural tavern scene with card-playing drinkers in the style of David Teniers II.
The Flemish painter David Teniers the Younger (1610-1690) was among others well-known for his humorous, slightly bawdy tavern scenes showing peasants, card-playing smokers and drinkers. The painting presented here, created by an unidentified artist, illustrates such a scene in the manner of David Teniers II.
The painting is barely legible signed lower right and dated ‘1890’. The canvas is relined and varnished. The painting is in good condition according to age, some retouching visible under UV, otherwise of good overall impression. The image size is 44.5 x 65.5 cm, the frame dimensions are 65 x 77 cm.
