The Viennese architect and landscape painter Erwin Pendl created this very detailed and finely painted watercolor in 1907. It illustrates an interior view of the meeting room of the Vienna Stock Exchange. This highly realistic representation gives almost the impression as if standing oneself in this magnificently decorated hall, whose walls are decorated in the Renaissance style, with alternating arcades and pilasters that are crowned with composite capitals. Delicate lusters are hanging from the ceiling which is decorated with stucco ornaments. The artist puts high value on the meticulously painted decorations such as the golden Cartel-clock above the central entrance, the magnificent porcelain vase on the left side and last but not least the portraits of the three gentlemen.



The watercolor is signed, dated and inscribed lower right ‘Erwin Pendl. Vienna, 1907’ and is firmly matted. It is otherwise overall in very good condition, the colors are fresh and clear. The subject measures 29.5 x 44 cm. The overall dimensions are 47 x 59.5 cm.



Erwin Pendl (1879-1945)

Erwin Pendl was born 1879 in Vienna. He came from a family of artists and was a student of his father in the beginning, followed by the education of court theater painter Burghart. Pendl worked in various architecture studios while specializing in the perspective view of buildings and views of Vienna. In 1906 he was awarded a gold medal at the international exhibition in Milan. At a later time he devoted himself entirely to the representation of topographically precise vedutas, painted in watercolors. As a member of the Austrian Artists Association he also regularly participated in their exhibitions.
