The continuous validity of and enormous popularity for Flemish and Dutch paintings is clearly evident by means of this imposing work from 1966. Depicted is ‘The Wedding Procession’ by Pieter Brueghel II, who painted it in 1623. Besides a multitude of contemporary imitations, offered painting was created almost 350 years later. In front of a gently undulating, idyllic landscape with windmill and village is displayed a wide street on which a procession is moving from right to left. The figures follow bride and groom to the village church; in doing so they are segregated into two groups. Two men playing bagpipes are leading the company.

The gorgeously framed painting is signed and dated at the lower right ‘A. Deknudt 1966’. It is in a good condition with signs of age and wear. The surface bears fine craquelure in places. Along the edges color loss is visible where the frame has rubbed. The frame is partially bumped. The dimensions of the panel are 100.2 x 152.2 cm, while the framed dimensions measure 140.5 x 191 cm.
