Serial # 6467 One of the greatest rarities in the 1911 Colt collecting genre, this is arguably the Holy Grail in that market. It is basically your standard pre-war Colt Model 1911 Ace .22 caliber semi-automatic pistol that was purchased and specially stamped for the U.S. Coast Guard. Standard features include 5" barrel blued finish, checkered wood grips, and .22 caliber semi-automatic. According to the Colt book, this was a commercial Model Ace manufactured in 1936. It has all commercial features except for the addition of "U.S. Coast Guard" stamped on the front right side of frame. Gun literally does not appear to have ever been used, exhibits 99.99% of the original finish. All correct parts for a Colt Commercial Ace including the magazine. There is not even a visible hint of muzzle wear, nor is there even the slightest trace of a usual drag line. Gun has a mint bore and action. It rests in its original manila pasteboard case with a Railway Express shipping label. There are several estimates as to how many of these were made for the U.S. Coast Guard training team. According to Clawson's book this gun falls into the serial number range (6160-6467) shipped to the Commanding Officer of the U.S. Coast Guard Depot in Curtis Bay, Maryland in a shipment of 105 guns. By adding up the totals of the shipment quantities of 712 spanning the period of July 1st, 1931 to July 1st, 1936. Of those, it would be impossible to find a finer example. If your desire to own the very best, this pistol should fit the bill.
