Item Details
Description
Serial # 3846 According to Wylies book on serial numbers, serial No. 3846 was issued to Company B of the First D.C. Cavalry. This unit participated in many of the major battles during the entire Civil War, that included the capture of John Mosby, the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863, Spotsylvania in 1864, Cold Harbor in 1865, and present at Appomattox at Lee's surrender. The rifle itself is in fine condition. Standard features include 24" octagon barrel (blued), full magazine (blued), brass frame, and walnut stock. The barrel and tube are a smooth brown patina with no pitting (extremely clean). Factory stamps are perfect. The brass frame shows no signs of having ever been cleaned or polished. Right side of the brass frame is etched "P.M.C.". The hammer and lever are basically a grey-brown patina. Stocks are excellent with original finish and no cracks or chips. There is a military cartouche in the right side of the stock, of which the oval can be seen but is faint. The wood is a hair shy at the toe of the curved brass buttplate. Action is perfect. Has a brass ring in the loading tube. Folding ladder rear sight. Nice strong clean bore. An extremely fine all original Martial Henry with unit history that fought in some of the most famous battles of the Civil War. Cal. .44 Rifle. #3486 is stamped on lower tang on left side. This same number is stamped on buttplate and buttplate screws. All numbers match the barrel number
