Description
S Gauge. 1947 production. This rare set is the first we have seen with the plain white car boxes. Reputed to have been an original owner find. It includes a beautiful 332 UP Northern 4-8-4 steam loco with RARE smoke in tender. It has great matte patina with wrap, coupler ring and wood block; long truck cars have matching semi matte patina. They are not perfect, but much better than usually seen. Include 653 combine, 2 pin-prick paint chips on roof; 2 #653 Pullmans, 1 is near flawless with very minor warp on 1 end of frame, rubber stamped lettering; other shows several small marks and a 1" thin scratch on roof; 654 observation has slight warp to frame ends, several pin-prick marks on roof and a long scrape on 1 side. With the rarity of this set, we felt the flaws were relatively minor. Cars included their scarce white boxes with rubber-stamped end flaps & coupler rings, all peripherals even the unfindable setbox insert. The scarce setbox has a nice label with red lettered number, bright with minor stains. Over all set is VG+ to EX+ and nice example of this rare set.
