Description
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A large bichrome pottery bowl created by the ancient Jalisco culture. Ceramics were created by every era and every people of ancient Mexico, and the Mesoamerican cultures of West Mexico were quite skilled. Elegantly painted service pieces such as this were used by the upper classes for fanciful meals. Pots were not fired in kilns, but in open bonfires, covered with shards, wood, and other inflammable materials. Note the gorgeous smoke clouds on the underside of this bowl. The results were quite remarkable! Size: 8" in diameter (20.32 cm) x 3"H (7.62 cm).
