Description
19th-early 20th century AD. A bronze figurine of Isis seated on a throne wearing the double-crown with uraeus, nursing Horus seated on her knee with sidelock of hair; mounted on a wooden stand. 101 grams, 11cm including stand (4 1/4"). The image of Isis nursing the infant Horus was one that displayed the maternal and protective power of the goddess. As her cult spread throughout the Roman Empire it would later influence the iconography of Christianity. Property of a Warwickshire gentleman; acquired 1960s. [No Reserve]
