Item Details
Description
Navajo chief blanket variant rug, early 20th century. Woven entirely of native handspun sheep wool, both un-dyed (white and dark brown), and dyed with aniline (red and blue), on a dark brown warp. Boldly graphics include serrated corners and a Saltillo-style serrated center diamond (serrates a.k.a. Pine Tree serrates). Stitch count: 22 to 24 wefts per inch. Origin: Native American / American Indian. Dimensions: 59 in. square.
Condition
Some staining and soiling in places (the rug seems to never have been washed), but overall it's in remarkable condition. All colors are bright as new (even the white), no fading, no wear, no holes, no insect damage, no frayed edges, selvedge cords intact, corner ties pristine.
