Hispano-Philippine Santos, 19th c.
carved in the form of the Immaculate Conception, brightly painted in orange, blue and traces of gold, the figures stands on a sphere centered by a cherub's bust and flanked by crescent moons, supported on a paneled base. Hard wood, Bohol Province. 12 1/4" h.
Condition: Losses to paint and gesso, lacking hands, crack to back, loss to front of base. Provenance: The Mr. & Mrs. Lester Andelson Collection Exhibition: The Allen Memorial Art Museum, Oberlin College, February 9, 1981 Literature: Philippine Religious Imagery, Fernando Zobel de Ayala, 1963
