Autograph Letters Signed by Carl Rungius. Includes:
1½ pages on two sheets, one with Kent Street, Brooklyn, letterhead: "I think Mr. Tope (?) would be mildly surprised, seeing the paintings at my studio. As I often told you, it is not very favorable for me, to be judged by the majority of my works in your possession, being nearly all illustrations for scientific purposes..." June 27, 1909.
3 pages, on two sheets, one headed Alhambra, California. He discusses some effects of the depression on artists, the WPA, and politics, also big game in Canada, etc. Jan. 9th, 1936.
Interesting letters from the German-born artist who he earned a reputation as the most important big game painter and the first career wildlife artist in North America.
