Hispano-Philippine Santos, 19th c.
the charming figure carved in the form of the Virgin del Rosario, the folk style carving with long hair with fine incised detailing, flowing clothes, and the Christ Child proudly held in her left arm, raised on an affixed squared base with initials "N. S. DR." Hardwood. 16 1/2" h.
Condition: lacking right arm, minor loss to back and base, lacking element to Christ Child, unfinished. Provenance: The Mr. & Mrs. Lester Andelson Collection Exhibition: The Allen Memorial Art Museum, Oberlin College, February 9, 1981 Literature: Philippine Religious Imagery, Fernando Zobel de Ayala, 1963
