This work of oil crayon dating from 1993 originates from the German artist Günther Förg. Here, one can see one of his characteristic picture with bars, whereof he created many in the 1990s. Förg built a grid in bold blue on top of a grate of square forms in yellow, turquoise and blue. In this drawing, Förg works with irregular borders between the different color patterns. Also, Förg applied the crayon richly, which gives this picture its characteristic energy and beauty.

The composition with blue grid is signed and dated upper right in pencil ‘Förg 93’. The sheet is in very good condition with traces of wear. It measures 29.5 x 41.5 cm.

Günther Förg (1952-2013)

Förg studied from 1973 to 1979 under Karl Fred Dahmen at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. In 1984, he participated in the exhibition ‘von hier aus – Zwei Monate neue Deutsche Kunst in Düsseldorf’ and was represented at the documenta IX in 1992. From 1992 to 1999, Förg taught at the Academy for Design in Karlsruhe and then became a professor at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts. (sku)
