
RUSSIAN ENAMELED CUP OF SORROW
Description
Enameled Russian "Cup of Sorrow ", circa 1896. This enamel on copper cup was a souvenir of the wedding of Czar Nicholas II, which was given away free on the day of the wedding. There was a stampede during which many people were killed and this was seen as an inauspicious start to their nuptuals and henceforth the cup was known as the Cup of Sorrows.
Condition : Wear to enameling on rim, small chips, small splatters of white paint in cup.
