Continental School, [19th Century]. "Katherine of Aragon (Queen of England) and Cardinal Woolsey [an extraordinarily large needlepoint "painting."]". Textile (Needlepoint). c1880s. Very good condition. Framed behind glass in a striking gilt period frame. The plaque reads: "Scene: The apartment of the Queen, Katherine of Arragon (sic), the wife of Henry VIII. The Queen with her three ladies in waiting; the two Cardinals, Woolsey in red, Capeius in purple. 'Cardinal Woolsey: Madam, you wander from the good we aim at. Queen Katherine: My lord, I dare not make myself so guilty. To give up willingly that noble title your master wed me to: nothing but death shall ere divorce my dignities.'". Image size: 59 x 55 in.
