Description
Boat Rudder - The whale ship Ansel Gibbs, ship of New Bedford Ma. registered May 1, 1856 and built at Rochester Ma in 1835. She sailed out of New Bedford 1871 under Captain Thomas McPherson and went whaling in the Hudson Bay. Lost on Marble Island October 19, 1872, eight of the crew men patched up a whale boat and made a rudder of whale bone.
Condition : Weathered condition, ware on bottom from ice.
