RARE SCRIMSHAW PORPOISE JAW 1803

This rare porpoise jaw is scrimshawed on both sides and complete with teeth. On one side is the date - 1803, Salem, and a potted tree in bloom with two ships in full sail flying the American Flag. On the other side of the jaw is an Eagle sitting on an anchor. It has a symbolic scene with a whales tooth hanging from a wreath and a Cross with a palm tree by its side. Also a war ship in full sail flying the American Flag. The jaw is bound together with fancy rope work.
Condition : Very good
Size : 14 1/2" long, by 4 1/2" wide
