ROBERT SALMON OIL PAINTING ON BOARD

Circa 1804. Fishing Party Beaching a Boat depicting a rocky shore with many fisher folk engaged in various activities; four men pulling a large boat ashore in foreground. signed on reverse and numbered " 37 " Robert Salmon (British, 1775–1845), work is sought by collectors. Salmon came from England in 1828 with a reputation as a leading painter of maritime subjects and established himself in Boston. Salmon painted ship portraits and light-filled harbor views that were a departure from the coastal scenes he was known for in his native Britain.
Condition : Good condition, scattered areas of in-painting under black light.
