An exceptional model of the Ship Friendship of Salem Mass. This very well made model has a wooden carved figurehead, carved stern, rigged cannons, working pulleys, dead eyes, and more. The Friendship was launched on May 28, 1797 as a square rigged ship with 2 decks and 3 masts. She was built at the Stage Custom House to Jerathmiel Pierce (1747-1827) She weighed in at 347 and 17/35 tons. When she was built she was listed on the registry certificates as follows: length 102 feet, 7 inches at the widest part, and depth of hold 13 feet 9 1/2 inches. Her cargo hold volume was 13680 cubic feet. Friendship log shows that she sailed at a speed of 10 to 12 knots. She was a very fast ship and had three square rigged masts as a full rigged ship. This is an impressive model.
