Portrait of a woman reputed to be a Ziegfried girl by Charles Gruppe. (1860 - 1940) A largely self taught painter, Charles Paul Gruppe did study in Holland and returned to the US in 1909. His work is represented in many museums in America and Europe. He won numerous medals and prizes including Rouen, AAS 1902, Paris 2 gold medals,St.Louis Exp. 1904, and the Tuthill prize in 1917. He was also a member of the Salmugundi Club in New York.
