Rome, c. 1st century AD. A rectangular marble relief with lion attacking a stag, both facing right. Perfectly centered, a lioness appears to be taking down a running stag. Stag's hind section is being forced down by attacking feline with the forepart of the stag attempting to lunge forward. Horns of stag are parallel and almost touching the top on the lioness's head. The subject matter on this relief is identical to that on the coin of Velia in Thurium, Sear, Greek Coins and Their Values, #453. In mottled marble with nice colors! Size is 7" x 10" x 3.5" thick. On custom metal stand.
