Rome, c. 1st-2nd century AD. An extremely interesting large marble fragment of Hercules and the Nemean Lion. All that remains of Hercules are his 2 feet which rest on the base of the statue and his left hand which still grips the mane of the lion. Hercules' left torso is cloaked with the lion's hide which rests atop the head of a bull. Repaired directly above the head of the bull. Ht: 11" x 7.5" x 4.5" deep. Rust colored patina throughout. A very intriguing piece!
