Hand-carved walnut wall plaque attributed to John Haley Bellamy circa 1866, with leaves and tree roots, carved in typical Bellamy style similar to his picture frames and animal carvings, 18" in circumference. Bellamy carved this piece when he moved to Charlestown to work at the Navy Yard; he lived on Ferrin St. and moonlighted by carving eagles, etc. for private customer; this plaque was once used by him to connote his store hours; there is a missing piece of wood that was used to cover the hours when he was not available. There is a name tag attached to the piece dated 1866 describing the provenance, indicating it was traded for cash and whiskey to William Massey of Charlestown.
