Francis Bacon, Study for a portrait of John Edwards, lithograph in colours 1987, signed in pencil and numbered 136/180, Inscribed on the back of the frame 30th August 1987 retirement present from Miss V Beston, (Miss Beston was a director of Marlborough. Image 27" x 19.75" Sheet 37" x 26.5" (A copy of this lithograph numbered 178 was sold in the Valerie Beston sale at Christies February 2006 lot 452.)Provenance; The Ron Thomas Collection of items from the Studio of Francis Bacon. Ron Thomas worked for the Marlborough Gallery for many years and he and his family became friends of the artist. NOTE this lot will be sold at approximately 5.45 pm BST

Over-all condition good: no watermarks; colours still strong.
