An opulent commemorative album of a high-ranking German navy officer from his service time entitled: Erinnerungen an meine Dienstzeit 1909-1912 S. M.S. Deutschland. 1909-12 and earlier. Circa 354 mostly gelatin silver prints (some albumen and collodion paper prints, 4 photochormes). Various sizes between circa 21 x 30 cm, 19 x 27 cm, 17 x 23 cm, 11 x 16 cm and 8 x 12 cm. Flush-mounted to album boards (slightly soiled), each titled in German in black ink below the images, several with number and photogapher's name in the negative, bound in contemporary burgundy cloth album (corners and edges bumped and rubbed).
An attractive and comprehensive collection of a German officer, showing nearly the entire fleet of German battleships (also some American and Japanese), compiled shortly before the outbreak of WWI. The album begins with the opening of the Kieler Woche by Kaiser Wilhelm II and shows many yachts including the German royal yacht "Meteor" and the English "Brittany". There are also some private photos showing landscapes in Norway(Romsdale), Lapland, Madeira, good images of glaciers in Norway, Chinese landscapes, villages and people including Hong Kong, Shanghai, Nangking and areas around the Yangtze River, as well as several views of Istanbul. The battleships include: S.M.S Deutschland, Pommmern, Hannover, Schlesien, Mecklenburg, Zähringer, Westphalen, Blücher, Augsburg, Nassau, Braunschweig, Rheinland, Posen, Hohenzollern, Stettin, Moltke, Ostfriesland, Thüringen, Helgoland, York, Rooi, Blücher, Augsburg. - Most gelatin silver prints with oxidation mirroring along edges, many of the smaller private photos with rubbed surface, some faded, a few with spots/foxing, otherwise in good to very good condition.
