Jumping Female Gymnasts. Circa 1936. 2 vintage gelatin silver prints on Agfa-Brovira paper. Circa 24 x 18 cm and 17,6 x 24 cm. Both annotated in pencil on the verso.
Known for his free-spirited, more natural outdoor nudes in the 1920s, Gerhard Riebicke still continued to work throughout the 1930s under the National Socialists. This image still captures the general mood of free movement present in Riebicke's earlier images, however, it shows Riebicke's switch to "dressing" his athletic nudes and the woman's hair is a highly stylized blonde, stressing the Arian aesthetic of the time. - A few light handling creases, otherwise in very good condition.
