Description
A FINE CIRCA-1903 PRESCOTT TWIN CYLINDER STEAM AUTOMOBILE ENGINE manufactured by the Prescott Automobile Mfg. Co., Serial No. 518, with twin horizontal cylinders each of approximately 2" bore x 3" stroke, the cylinders with 6-bolt bronze fore and aft heads, center-mounted valve chest with brass top-mounted maker's plate, cylinder and valve chest adjustable packing glands each with spring-loaded retainers, heavy slipper-design crosshead guides, heavy bronze knuckle design crossheads, brass piston rods, steel connecting rod with brass crosshead and crankshaft bearings, bronze frame-incorporated main bearings each with adjustable caps and matching spring-loaded oil cups, four crankshaft-driven bronze eccentrics with four bronze rods to Stephenson link reverse mechanism including twin quadrants and cross shaft with bracket for reverse linkage connection. Other engine details include a 10" diameter flywheel with a 1" polished face, 1/2" N.P.T. inlet fitting with heavy cast exhaust manifold. The engine appears to be in excellent condition and possibly never used, free turning, having been run on air and steam. All mounted on a temporary 23" x 30" x 4 1/2" hardwood base. Engine dimensions: overall length from rear of flywheel to cylinder head - 23"; width of both cylinders combined - 10 1/2"; length over crankshaft - 9"; overall height to top of flywheel on stand - 15"; to top of cylinder head on top of stand - 9". Approximate weight - 75 lbs. (See photo).
