A FINE CIRCA-1875 AMERICAN VERTICAL REVERSING STEAM LAUNCH ENGINE with single vertical cylinder of approximately 2 1/2" bore x 3" stroke, cylinder side-mounted valve chest, both cylinder and chest with adjustable brass packing glands, the cylinder mounted on an early hand-forged iron A-frame support with frame-incorporated crosshead guides, double tapered wedged connecting rod bearing with cup oiler and brass bearing surface, 1 1/8" diameter crankshaft supported on pedestal-mounted twin main bearings each with adjustable tabs and oil reservoirs, single highly ornate 11" flywheel with a 2 3/4" face, the flywheel with ornate pierced motif. Other fine details include: hand-lever operated Stephenson link reversing mechanism with twin crankshaft eccentric-driven rods to a single brass quadrant with internal bearing and linkage to valve chest. The eccentric straps with twin brass oilers, each with threaded knurled caps. Other engine details include: a crankshaft-driven positive displacement boiler feed pump, driven from a 2 1/2" diameter crank disc with pin and rod to pump plunger, the pump with period check valve and highly ornate brass acorn pressure dome, twin gravity feed variable drip brass oilers, inlet and outlet steam piping 1/2" NPT. All mounted on a twin channel iron base on twin channel iron skids. Skid dimensions: 17" x 1 3/4". Engine dimensions: overall height to top of cylinder - 26"; to top of steam inlet piping - 28"; to top of flywheel - 12"; length over shaft - 17"; approximate weight - 110 lbs. (See photo.)
