Comments:This work has 13 figures.The circus was a popular subject among artists of the Paris school in the early part of the twentieth century, and for Picasso, one of the first subjects he illustrated in printmaking and painting. The circus was understood by writers and artists of the time to be a visual metaphor for life in general and artists such as Severini, Rouault, Chagall, Duchamp, Villon and others visited the theme frequently in their work.
