Description:Aquatint engraving, hand-colored, heightened with gum arabic. Image approx. 18½x13, on plate 23¾x17, hinged to mat. Spectacular and vivid depiction of a warrior in full regalia, a bow and arrows clasped in his left hand; from the atlas which accompanied Prince Maximilien of Wied's account of his travels into the interior of North America in the early 1830's. There were editions in Germany, France, and England, with the same atlas, issued in France, used for the various editions, and the captions are in French, German and English, and the imprints of all three publishers are in the plate. With Bodmer's blindstamp in the lower margin.
