Camark Lessell (Le Camark) vase with scene of palm trees on a shore, mountains in the far background and the sun behind a cloud. Decorated in iridescent gold and bronze tones. Marked Le-Camark. Exceptionally clean and atypically free of abrasions and color loss. No damage or repairs. 9 7/8" tall by 5" wide. This piece, as well as the other Camark and Fraunfelter pieces in this auction, are from the family of Alfred P. Tetzschner. After coming to America in the later part of the 1910s, Tetzschner joined Fraunfelter in 1924 and became close with John Lessell. When Lessell and his wife went to Camden, Arkansas, to work for Camark, Tetzschner and his wife joined them. Tetzschner worked at Camark as a decorator and eventually became art director prior to his departure around 1929. While many of the Camark and Fraunfelter pieces in this auction are undoubtedly the work of Lessell, many are Tetzschner's, which we have identified as such. A copy of a signed letter from Tetzschner's grandson documenting its provenance accompanies this piece.
