Second Edition. Originally published in a larger format in 1875; this being the first small paper edition, second edition overall. "This book is one of the masterpieces of golf literature. It is also one of the most important contributions to the library of golf and one of the most handsomely produced of all golf books, even to this date (1966)" - Murdoch 388; D&M 910; D&J C12790. Provenance: According to the former owner's inked note (laid-in), this copy "Stayed with Publisher's family 'till 1949. I obtained from Sydney Brown in 1952, McAvis(?)." Signed by E. Duncan Macmillan and Sydney Brown on the front preliminary leaf.

Spine leaning a bit, ends and corners bumped, a few bubbling spots on rear cover, other slight wear; binding a bit shaken, occasional faint foxing, else very good.
