Hovde/Shaw Elephant Gun 10'5" (10r) 1961 - This is a rare gun from the early 60's. Crafted by veteran shaper Jim Hovde of San Diego who is best know as the shaper of the G&S "Red Fins", this board was patterned after a Pat Curren full gun and glassed by "Root" Shaw. During the winter of 1961/62 this board was ridden by a wide variety of surfers and dubbed "one of the best boards made that winter", according to master shaper Bill Thrailkill. It was found on the North Shore with four layers of pigment hiding the superb shape and color design. Fully restored to original condition, a great example of the big gun era.
