Classical Bookcase on Chest

Bookcase, probably Tennessee. Base is a chest of drawers with overhanging top drawer above three smaller drawers, with fully turned side columns and paneled sides. Plinth base with flattened ball feet. Features ogee molded cornice above glazed doors, two large panes of glass overlaid with geometric pattern latticework. Mahogany veneers, secondary poplar. The turnings on the base are similar to other forms that have surfaced in Davidson County. Condition - Scattered areas of veneer loss including a 3" area on front drawer section. Brass pulls are replacements. Section of wood lattice work broken off (top section). Dimensions - 8' ht x 23" depth x 45 ½ " width. Circa 1835-1845. Glen Leven estate.
