Gorham coin silver mug, maker's mark for Gorham - lion/anchor/G, "Coin 4". Inscription "M.McC.O. to M.McC.O. April 30, 1858 / M.McC.O. to C.O.T. Jan'y 2, 1883 / C.O.H. July 26, 1909 / S.McC.W. August 15, 1939." Coin silver mug with cylindrical tapering, molded upper and lower rim, upper rim with applied line of beading, S shaped handle with spur at upper end. Center with chased, repousse design of two cornucopias filled with fruits, joined to form a cartouche with inscriptions. Provenance - inscriptions suggest the mug was originally given by Mary McConnell White Overton (wife of Judge John Overton, founder of Traveller's Rest) to her granddaughter, Mary McConnell Overton, who was born in 1858. The mug was then passed to Mary McConnell Overton (Thompson)'s daughter, Conn Overton Thompson (Harris), born 1883. It was then passed to Conn Overton Thompson Harris's daughter, Conn Harris West, and finally to Susan McConnell West. Condition - minor denting at handle, rim with slight deformation. 3 3/4" height, 3.640 oz troy. Glen Leven estate.
