Contemporary cloth backed paper boards. Documents current research and surveys mostly in biology, geography, hydrology, astronomy, and mathematics. 36 (of 37) plates (mostly folding) consisting of maps, diagrams, and drawings. Vols I-II signed on title page by David Redick (d.1805), lawyer, and surveyor, and Vice President of Pennsylvania. Highlighting his political career was an appointment in 1787 to communicate with the Governor of Connecticut on behalf of the Pennsylvanian government regarding the two states' conflicting territorial claims. In 1794, Redick and William Findlay, siding with the government, coauthored the official document by which the Whiskey Rebellion participants formally surrendered.

Condition report

Ex-library, bindings worn and soiled, library stickers at foot of each spine, 3 vols lacking free eps, some dampstains to exterior and few pages, some rubber stamps, some foxing and light toning, title page torn Vol II. Moderate offset from plates. Publication dates and condition of individual volumes described below. 7 pp. 2nd edition. Upper left corner of title page eliminated by a tear. Vol I: 2nd ed. corrected (1789). 6 plates. Vol II: 1786. Horizontal tear to title page. 5 plates. IV: 1802, Tear removing bottom edge of p42 of the index. 12 (of 13) plates. Vol V: 13 plates (library stamp on 4).
