Oil on Canvas Landscape by Frank J. Girardin,
signed in the lower left, F.J. Girardin. A fine, small, wooded scene with a river, under a brilliantly colored evening sky. Appears to be in its original gesso and gilt frame; 4.5" x 8.5" (w/o frame), 11.5" x 15.5" (w/frame).

Frank J. Girardin (1856-1945), born in Louisville, Kentucky, and trained in Cincinnati under Thomas Noble at the Cincinnati University School of Design, and with Frank Duveneck at the Cincinnati Art Academy. He spent his early career in Richmond, Indiana, moved briefly to New Orleans, Louisiana, and eventually settled in Redondo Beach, California. He was known for his landscapes, and particularly his use of color.
