half-length portrait of a matronly woman wearing a shaw and a lace bonnet, with brass spectacles perched atop her head. She holds a small trinket, or perhaps snuff, box, and is seated upon an elaborate upholstered and paint-decorated Empire chair. American, ca 1825-1850, in an old gilt frame; 27" x 24.75" (w/o frame), 35" x 32.5" (w/frame).
