watercolor on paper. Half-length profile portrait of gentleman identified on the reverse as S.R. Smith. Signed at the bottom, RS Biddle. Fecit. In an old gilt frame; 4" x 3" (w/o frame), 6.25" x 5.25" (w/frame).

Robert Stone Biddle (died ca 1858), arrived in Philadelphia from Gloucestershire, England in 1834, and was variously listed as a portrait painter, druggist, and china merchant.
