Tennessee presentation silver goblet with the inscription, "Presented to Margaret J. Greig by Her Father Dec. 25th 1858". The Greig referenced as "Father" may be George Greig, who was listed in a advertisement of the Campbell Business directory of Nashville and Co. 1857, p. 94. This advertisement lists Greig as a " Manufacturer, Wholesale and Retail, dealer in all kinds of Confectioneries No. 37 Union st., Nashville, Tenn." The goblet consist of elaborate grape repousse work with a gilt interior, grape stem and base. Found in a Nashville estate. Very good condition. 7 5/8" height, 4" diameter. A reprinted catalog of this directory will be included in this lot. Additional note - a search for Margaret J. Greig revealed 19th century song books and sheet music in the special collection of the Nashville library, dating 1824-1892. This sheet music was bound by Nashville "blank book manufacturers" with the names of individuals printed on the front covers, among these names, Maggie J. Greig. Private collection.
