1979-1980 Dave Cowens Boston Celtics Game-Used Road Jersey The 1971 NBA Co-Rookie of the Year, Dave Cowens (HOF) was also, among his many awards, the 1973 NBA MVP and the 1973 NBA All-Star Game MVP. Drafted by the Celtics out of Florida State on the recommendation of former Celtics center Bill Russell, he spent the next ten years in Boston and was a seven-time All-Star. Since retiring as a player from professional basketball, Cowens has coached for the Celtics, Bucs, Spurs and Warriors, and was the head coach of the Hornets for three years. Old time Celtic Jim Loscutoff asked that his jersey number 18 not be retired so that a future Celtic could wear it; the number 18 was later retired in honor of Dave Cowens. On the left front tail of this road knit jersey is the "Medalist Sand-Knit" manufacturer's tag with the jersey size "46" on it. Above that is an additional manufacturer's exclusive tag that reads "Designed & Tailored Exclusively for the Boston Celtics." Across the front of the jersey is "CELTICS." Below that and on the back is the player number "18." Across the back of the jersey is "COWENS." All lettering and numbering is done in white tackle twill. The jersey shows game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind. A MEARS letter is included with an A10 rating.
