Four piece bedroom suite, originally purchased as a set by Mr. Herman Pohlmann, a downtown New Orleans merchant prior to the Civil War, 1) 1860 Rococo Victorian queen size half tester bed, matched high grade tiger figured and solid walnut, 10'10"t, (wardrobe of set signed "M Bros"), 7't arched headboard, deep molded panel, cabochon medallions, leaf carved and beveled panels, large scrolled cartouche with shells, 8" dia headboard posts, carved reticulated brackets with drop finials around molded serpentine tester with reticulated carved crest and carved umbrella shaped finials, carved and paneled side rails, 46"t footboard with carved finials, arched molded panels, 10'10"t, over queen inside measurements, 64" x 83", overall width 76" x 96". This bed is one of the finest in choice of high quality woods, good untouched original condition. 2) doubledoor armoire, 9'5"t, solid walnut, signed "M Bros", full length arched molded mirrored doors, leaf carved escutcheons and door pulls, two burl drawers in molded base, shell and scrolled carving on frieze arched molded crown, reticulated scrolled and paneled crest and corners finials, 9'5"t, 59"w, 20"d., untouched original finish/condition, later hinges. 3) marble top dresser, solid walnut, four bowfront drawers, grape cluster, vine and leaf carved pulls, lifttop molded accessory boxes, molded panels on mirror with candle shelves, tall arched crest with reticulated scrolled and rosette carvings, 8'5"t, 45"w, 23"d., dark original crazed finish. 4) small three drawer marble top chest, three bowfront drawers, grape cluster vine and leaf pulls, 13"t splashback with accessory shelves, 33"w, 41"t, 19"d., dark original finish/condition, one flake on marble splashback.
1) Received from great granddaughter of 2)Herman Pohlmann (1825-Germany to 1902 New Orleans, La.) arrived in New Orleans 1846, was senior member of Pohlmann & Son, wholesale grocers on Tchoupitouins(between Lafayette & Poydras) 3) Was passed on to son Henry Pohlmann, Sr. (1865-1936) who moved to Pensacola, Fl. 1528 E. Brainard St. 4) Property inherited by Henry Pohlmann, Jr. father of consignor.
