GOLD RUSH MUSICIANS VANCE DAGUERREOTYPE

The miners needed entertainment. Here are three who supplied it, seated with their legs crossed. They wear the typical miners' red shirts and straw hats, and so are more likely to have been miners who played for their fellows than musicians who came primarily as entertainers. The accordion player and Mr. Tambourine Man in the center smoke cigars, but not the fiddler at right.

This 1/6 plate is still in its original seals. The embossed logo for "R. H. Vance's Premium Daguerrean Galleries, San Francisco, Sacramento and Marysville" is on the purple velvet pad of the case. There is some dust on the underside of the glass, but no damage to the plate. [3+]
