TEAM OF GYMNASTS.1/2 PLATE DAGUERREOTYPE

7 bearded young men pose in their athletic attire. One holds a dumbbell. In the back row two others also show their arms—one holds the back of his head, one his chin. The similar beards and hairstyles show us an ideal of athleticism in this period around 1850.

This half plate has been cleaned in the past. It has diminished luster, some wipes and scratches, and a spot within a white area on the chest of one of the men. It is an extremely rare daguerreian subject. In a full case with repaired spine. [D2]

As indicated in the text and the condition code[D2}this is not a pristine plate. I'm offering this because I think the interest and rarity of the subject makes this desirable. I'm not aware of comparable image in better condition.
