Ferrero seems to have been an interesting character. He was a dance instructor at West Point, and operated ballrooms in NYC after the war. He participated in a number of significant Civil War operations, but contributed to the disaster at the battle of the Crater by remaining in the bombproof, drinking rum with General Ledlie—both were disgraced.
