WOMEN ON PARK BENCH, PARIS, BY BRASSAÏ

15 ½" x 11 ½" gelatin silver print, ferrotyped. This has the earliest of Brassai's Faubourg St. Jacques Port Royal stamps on the verso [see the October 2006 Millon & Associés auction catalog, p. 471, for the dating of the various stamps.] Many of the prints in that major Brassai auction with this stamp were printed in the late 1930's and ca. 1940. This print may be from the same period, but could possibly have been made as late as the early 1950's. It is a brilliant rich print. There has been some expert conservation of the very bottom of the print; it appears excellent. [D4-]
