''Official Certified Facsimile of the Declaration of Independence, Illuminated by the Coats of Arms of the United States and of the Original States,'' 1902. Piece features full text of the Declaration of Independence in the center, surrounded by colorful coats of arms from the original thirteen states; two coats of arms of the United States appear at the top underneath title. Certification at the bottom, next to seal, reads in part, ''ÖI, John Hay, Secretary of State of the United States, have here unto subscribed my name and caused the seal of the Department of State to be affixed. Done at the city of Washington, this 8th day of November, A.D. 1902Ö'' Hays' printed signature follows text. Contains foxing around border and in two central horizontal areas due to previous framing techniques. A crack appears at the top center portion and proceeds diagonally to the middle of document; in fair condition for this reason.
