Extremely Rare Chester Arthur Indian Peace Medal
1881 Chester Arthur Indian Peace Medal in Silver-Plated Bronze, Choice Extremely Fine.
Julian IP-45, 76 x 58 mm, struck by the United States Mint. Original striking in Bronze, subsequently silver-plated. Holed at the top for suspension. Most of the silvering remains intact; only the highest points on the reverse show traces of the underlying bronze. In his 1986 Price Guide, Hartzog could only find two records of the Bronze version appearing on the market. One of the reasons for the rarity of this medal is the fact that Garfield medals were still being presented to the Indians as late as 1884! A wonderful opportunity for the advanced collector or institutional buyer to add this elusive medal to their collection.
