Artist Statement and Biography:  This goddess is a tribute to Niles born and Warren raised poet, painter, jazz performer, and social critic Kenneth Patchen.  Ever a loner and innovator, Kenneth, like the Goddess of Speed, represents a new, modern, progressive and bold artistic vision.  This statue combines the words and images of Kenneth Patchen including steel mills, his soot covered orange bear, poverty, love, peace and his enduring affection for and dedication to his lovely wife, Miriam.

Bill Mullane earned his BFA from Kent State University and his master’s from Youngstown State University.  He worked as a teacher and administer for Warren City Schools for twenty-eight years, and he is now the Supervisor of School Improvement for the Ashtabula County Educational Service Center.  In addition to his work as an educator, he has served as the gallery director, treasurer and board member for Trumbull Art Gallery.  In addition, he was the founder and director of the Kenneth Patchen Literary Festival in Warren, Ohio.
