Artist: Bennett Strahan; Raleigh, North Carolina Sponsor: Harrington, Hoppe & Mitchell Medium: Acrylic paint
Artist Statement and Biography: As a Packard car owner and artist, I thought "what a great project!" Although as an artist my work is abstract in nature, I felt I could bring a little of the abstract to an otherwise fairly figurative piece. The colors I used are a replica of the beautifully crafted colors of the Packard automobile throughout its glorious history, hence the title.
Bennett Strahan met Frank Lloyd Wright at the age of 11 or 12. When Wright asked what he could do for him, Strahan responded "I want to go to your school." Wright gave him an application and when the time came he applied and was accepted. Strahan is a graduate of the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture. He studied art at Alma College and economics at Lawrence Institute. As a licensed architect and a Wright Scholar he has restored some of America's finest architecture as well as designed and built a few great structures of his own. He has maintained a working easel for more than forty years and operates a gallery in New Mexico. Condition reportThe statue measurements are approximately 6 feet tall by 8 feet, 6 inches long. These are works of art and some statues are meant to be displayed out of the elements.
